HISTOPATHOLOGY - CPA Standard E1.2 (c)
Diagnostic histopathology involves the interpretation of microscope slides of tissues removed during surgical procedures. The specimens range in size from small biopsies to whole organs.
The Department of Histopathology at IHS actively participates in all aspects of diagnostic histopathology and is staffed by consultant histopathologists, and biomedical scientists. All of the biomedical scientists are HPC registered.
IHS offers a comprehensive service, which includes digital images and web access for reports. This proves useful to enable discussion of cases at MDT meetings.
Consultant medical advice is available during and often outside routine office hours and we support both the independent sector and the NHS. Turnaround times for most cases are 24-48 hours and within 7 working days for NHS cases.
Note: More complex specimens, and those specimens requiring additional testing, may take longer to produce the final report.
Frozen Sections - CPA Standard E1.2 (e):
The service is available by prior arrangement. 24 hours notice is required for routine cases. Call the main Laboratory number: 020 7299 4490, to make a booking.
Immunohistochemistry:
A comprehensive immunohistochemistry service is available, with rapid turn-around of reports.
Molecular Biology:
In appropriate cases, diagnostic molecular biological techniques are available. This applies mainly to lymphoid neoplasms.
Digital Imaging:
We are now able to offer the incorporation of digitally-acquired images of both microscopic and gross pathology into printed reports, and for display via our secure website. This unique service adds a new dimension to the delivery and presentation of pathology reports.
Sub-specialty work:
Through an established network of experts, IHS Ltd, is able to provide a diagnostic service covering all sub-specialties, including renal biopsies, haematopathology, osteo-articular and neuropathology.
Note: Some additional testing may be carried out by referral laboratories:
Immunocytochemistry is routinely carried out by UCHLAD
Immunofluresence is routinely referred to CXH
