1. Collection of Specimens
Specimens can be collected from any location of your choice. Our Couriers are leaders in their field and have ISO 9001 registration.
2. Delivery
Subject to a full audit trail, the specimens will be delivered to the IHS laboratory, which holds full accreditation from CPA. It is essential that the referring site stipulate whether a specimen is urgent or a non–gynaecological cytology specimen so as to ensure a rapid delivery and prevent deteriation of the quality of the sample
3. Processing
Once registered at sample reception, the specimen is immediately cut up by a consultant pathologist or biomedical scientist. Specimens are then processed through to molten wax.
4. Embedding, Cutting and Staining
After processing, the specimens are embedded. The wax blocks are then cut using a microtome and sections are placed onto a glass slide. The slides are stained and cover-slipped, now ready for the pathologist to report.
5. The Pathologist's Report
Both the slide and request form are presented to the pathologist in the relevant sub-specialty for rapid diagnosis. Pathology images will be available upon request.
6. Results
Your results can be faxed, sent by hard copy to your chosen location, or electronically viewed via the secure IHS weblink.
7. Doctors For Doctors
Your IHS pathologist will be happy to discuss any aspect of the case.
IHS provides the total solution for cellular pathology support. Our Doctors For Doctors approach, which seeks to encourage close working relationships between our pathologists and consultant colleagues, is the cornerstone of our business.
